Strengthening RPP through collaboration with RHP

29 january 2025

To address the growing demand for RPP certification and the increase in workload arising from this, RPP (Responsibly Produced Peat) and RHP, the knowledge centre for substrates, are jointly exploring the frameworks for collaboration.

Why this step?

RPP has seen significant growth in recent years, with certification applications steadily increasing in 2025. As a result, RPP will soon have certified more than half of the area used for peat extraction for horticulture. While this growth highlights the sector’s commitment to responsible production, it also presents challenges.

To ensure continuity of RPP, safeguard knowledge, and maintain the quality of operations, RHP has emerged as the most logical partner. With its commitment to sustainability in its policy and deep expertise in quality certification of growing media, RHP is well-equipped to support RPP. In addition, RHP is actively working on a certification scheme for responsibly produced coir and uses its expertise to assess the suitability of new growing media compositions with renewable materials. Through these efforts, RHP is actively contributing to the transition toward sustainable growing media for the future.

Ensuring independence and credibility

A core focus of this collaboration is maintaining the independence of RPP’s certification standards and visibility. The involvement of NGOs remains critical to safeguarding credibility and aligning with environmental objectives.

What’s next?

In the coming months, RHP and RPP will outline the frameworks for this collaboration and share updates on progress.
