especially applied in the cultivation of tomato, cucumber, peppers rose and for example gerbera
Mineral wool has been spun from rock. Mineral wool is basically a natural product, it comes into existence in the event of volcanic eruptions. Mineral wool is industrially made of mainly basalt, a volcanic rock. The unique fibre structure comes into existence by melting the basalt and in spinning it in various directions. Thus the desired structure is developed with the fibres. Minor additions are made to improve stability and water uptake. Mineral wool can be recycled after use.
Among others Netherlands, Czechia.
Substrate slabs and -blocks of mineral wool are applied in vegetable crops, ornamental crops and the cultivation of young plants. Mineral wool is especially applied in production of tomato, cucumber, peppers etc. and rose, gerbera etc. Because these growing media have been applied for decades, there are standard culture strategies available for irrigation and fertilisation.
