Acrotelm

Natural material and raw material for growing media

What is acrotelm?

Acrotelm is a natural product used as a raw material in growing media with low pH and EC. It has a buffering effect, similar to young peat. Mind you, acrotelm isn’t peat. Acrotelm is the (growing) top layer of a peat bog and consists of peat moss and other peat plants. Because it can grow back into a harvestable layer in 25 years, this material is an inexhaustible source of raw material for substrate mixtures. After harvesting, the moisture content is reduced, it is matured for some time and sieved.

Source

Currently only in Finland, but in principle this is possible wherever raised bog develops.

Properties and application

Acrotelm is a universal raw material. It can be used for a wide range of applications, but is especially interesting for acid-loving crops.

Distinctive RHP quality

RHP-certified acrotelm meets the requirements for pH, EC, nutrients, heavy metals, lime requirements, organic matter, plant pathogens (nematodes, clubroot) and weeds. It may contain heather seeds.
